Essex Vegan Festival

2005 Festival Report
by Karin Ridgers

Each year 100's of people come along from all over Essex and further a field to enjoy the only event of its kind in Essex - with a positive party atmosphere, sample some different animal friendly foods, listen to some great speakers and perhaps buy some Christmas pressies!

This event is independent and after costs are covered the profits will be donated on a local level to Towerhill and Hopefield Animal Sanctuaries:

www.towerhillstables.com and www.hopefield.org.uk

Donations are also given to Viva! and The Vegan Society as their help and support is invaluble.

A MEGA thanks to all of the supporters for this years event - and especially to Ayuva the lovely Ashish our Ayurvedic Practitioner.

www.ayuva.com

And the fab Lifescape Magazine.

All stall holders and supporters contact details are on the website - please do support them too!

Thanks for making the event the busiest so far and here's to making next year's even better!

Well done for a successful night! Now have a rest!

Karin, you did a wonderful job! It was a great event, really relaxed and friendly. Hope you have a chance to rest and put your feet up now.
Kate, Raw Living

I wanted to say a big thank you for another great festival. I had a great time and made some new friends as well as catching up with others who I hadn't seen since last year. A lot of people remembered me and I did a good business that night.
I can't imagine the amount of energy that you must expend putting on such an event, but thank you for doing it. I had a great time.

Kind regards, Jacqui

It was great to see VeggiePets - I saw them in the local paper and am impressed there are such products.

Well, it took us 3 hours to get up from wimbledon to Brentwood!! Lucky our kids are good with cars!!
Anyway, it was good seeing all those passionate vegetarians...and that they are normal!!!

Thanks

Just to let you know that this was the first veggie festival i have been to. As a Vegan it can be very difficult to find places where there are lots of choices to buy clothes and ideas for presents etc.

I really enjoyed the evening and the food was really welcome as i came straight over from work! I was really impressed with a company called Bourgeous Boheme (I think that's their name) i purchased some boots for myself and gifts for my daughter, until i found this company i couldnt find anywhere that sold non leather good quality footwear. I shall be paying another visit to see their wares!

The evening covered many areas of animal welfare and also alternatives to using animal products, which i was really pleased about because this makes it easier for people to keep to a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle.

Regards, Elaine Hayes.

Dairy free cream cheese and icecream - I am in heaven! Many thanks for an eye opening event.

I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the stalls. I was pleasantly surprised to see the level of interest and perhaps that is an indication that the event could (?) be bigger next year. The food was very nice and seemed to go down very well. Please keep me informed as I would like to persuade the trustees of our organisation to have a stand at your next event (space permitting).

We tried the veggie steaks on Sunday that you were giving away and quite enjoyed them.

Well done
Steve Maxworthy

The tarot card lady was spot on - I cant wait to see her next year.

I cannot say enough good things about the event which Ashwyn & I came to, we both were surprised and delighted at the response and breth of contributors. It was so great to see such a diverse and interesting array of stalls, produce and services. The venue was excellent too.

Even I, vegan for nearly 20 years, have learnt something! So many congratulations and looking forward to next years.

One thing I would like to ask is, where did you get the feta cheese which was used on some of the meals? I have asked in my local health shop but not got any as yet, if it was purchased locally I would appreciate knowing from where, thanks.

Congratulations, well done, cheers, a great big pat on the back! Keep up the good work. If you need a hand with anything in future please let me know and I'd be more than pleased to lend a hand or two.

Take care & best wishes
Kind regards, Patricia Smyth

Fantastic Jungle Chocolates, good to know of another health shop in Ingatestone, and investment advice!! Wow. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food.
Thank you

Thank you for organising it all and sending proceeds to worthwhile charities. My niece and I enjoyed many things, but esp the head massage demo, and later the 15 min for £5 offer by Genene, I was also interested in Ashish's introduction to ayurvedic practise. Very well done for all your hard work.

Marianne Crofton

Pleased to see & re-make the acquaintance of fellow herbalist ashish, our paths having crossed a few years back. The bone density study was interesting. The vegan body builders were fun. And enjoyed meeting the 'slinky' women. Fine venue in many ways.

We arrived at 6.20pm as we didn't want to miss anything and went into the head massage workshop, which we enjoyed very much. Then we queued for food, which we also enjoyed. We noticed the goody bags everyone had, but by then they had all gone, which left us a bit crestfallen. Thanks for organising it. Not something I would like to do!

I t was fab and really enjoyed the event and so pleased that you did it again and I managed to get plenty of raw goodies. raw chocolate and plenty of raw nut butters and enjoyed the raw cakes. Will be interesting to see my bone density which was fun and brilliant mix of stalls , talks and rawfood.
Love Graeme

I thought it was a really good night and you did a great job. I think the only 'constructive' thing to comment on would be the length of time for the food queue. It wasn't a problem at all though - that's just life. It may just be that with the large amount of people we need a bigger venue next time, which is good news!!

That's if there is a next time... Hopefully it wasn't too stressful that it put you off. I particularly enjoyed having an Indian Head massage and a Hot Stone massage - but that's just coz I love treating myself, no
vegan-oriented motives!!!

Vegan-wise, I loved the cake stall. The food stall (African/Carribean?) looked delicious although I was too full to try much. It's always great to see Fry's & Viva there, plus the Animal Protection Society I hadn't seen before.

The slinky company had some fantastic undies, really made me laugh. Lifescape looks great, plan to subscribe...... Anyway, I could go on. Everything was great and I'm sure everyone appreciates just how much work must go into organising this but perhaps we forget to thank you. So thank you and well done.

Happy Christmas!

Once again a very big congratulations to you and your helpers for a great event.

I am sure that a lot of non vegans came away with a very positive message and will start to think about changing their way of life if they haven't already.

We enjoyed the food a lot, but felt a bit sorry for the lady who did all the serving singlehanded - she deserves a medal! I appreciate the venue has its limitations but possibly next time it might reduce the queues if more people were serving the food, that is of course if extra man(or woman)power was
available which I know it often isn't.

But we thought the event was just great (wouldn't like to do one in Colchester by any chance?) and well done as well for all the money raised for worthwhile causes.

Best wishes

CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT EVENT ON FRIDAY. LAUREN x

Thanks for a really lovely time on Friday. Sorry I didn't get to speak to you - I just caught sight of a speeding streak of energy & activity which I think must've been you!! A few pieces of feedback which I hope will help: - I absolutely loved seeing such a rich mixture of therapists, ethical organisations and crafts - more every year!

The atmosphere was great. - The website is really informative. I think it's a really important thing you're doing and you're doing it brilliantly! It's raising awareness of so many issues and the energy is great. I really look forward to it - so I hope you do lots more! Take care Karin - hope you can put your feet up for a bit now!

Karen x

The Veggie Holidays were interesting - something for me to think about for next year.

I would just like to tell you that my wife and I enjoyed the Fest a lot, as also we did last year. Thank you for all your work in organising it. I would say that the venue was fine, although when we arrived about 6.40 parking was difficult. The stalls were fine, the meal good. The best part, to us, were the speakers/presenters, some of whom were outstanding. Very well informed.

Thank you for an enjoyable and instructive evening.

Regards. Roy Joslin Disability Essex (Essex Disabled People's Association Ltd)

Came along last Friday with 3 friends . We all had a wonderful time. Food was great although they could have had a couple more people serving, would have made the lines a bit shorter. Other than that it was all great.

Thanks so much for making it all happen.

Maureen (Mills)

Just wanted to say well done for all your hard work organising the Vegan Essex Festival on Friday.

It was fab!!! Well done!!

All the best
Julie and Brian

Congratulations on the success of this years Vegan Festival. We really enjoyed ourselves and especially meeting Kate Wood and hearing her talk on eating raw. Made some good contacts to follow up for future purchases.

Pete's vegan bodybuilding was also very interesting for us. The food was good and if you find time (I know you always have your hands full) could you possibly let us know who supplied the mozzarella style cheese as it was absolutely delicious.

Thanks and Best Wishes Sue & Dave Savage.

My husband and I thought the event was absolutely great. Everything and everyone was fantastic. Keep the good work up. Can't wait for next year. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

Well done for organising a great night once again. It was totally fab, I met some great people and bought some really useful stuff.

I really don’t know how you managed to put in such a spectacular event all on your own in your condition!! You really are a star. Thanks again Karin for a wonderful evening and I hope you feel up to putting on another event next year

Lots of love Sarah xxx

Although I am embarrassed by my absence from the veg fest, I have some feedback from one of our supporters that I met today. She described the event, without putting on any emphasis for politness, as 'absolutely excellent', and I know she would have been candid with me had she felt any
differently.

Well done. Bruce
